BUILDING FOR THE FUTURE - £1000
This charity has been established for 19 years and supports disabled
children in Reading and surrounding areas.
The charity exists to ensure that disabled children and young adults are
not excluded, isolated or left without opportunity.
They support over 500 families with free access to their centre, which
is currently being developed to provide a new fully accessible area..
A key part of this new space will be a sensory environment, designed to
support individuals with autism, sensory processing needs and complex
disabilities.
An award of £1000 would allow them to purchase a unique sensory product.
READING OPERATIC SOCIETY COMMUNITYTHEATRE- £250
This society is a volunteer run community theatre charity, that has been
producing musical theatre across Berkshire for 75 years. The society’s aims
are:
- To sustain community theatre activity for audiences across Berkshire.
- To keep participation in theatre affordable and accessible for local families.
- To support confidence and development opportunities for young performers.
They rehearse in Earley and perform predominantly at venues in the
Reading and Henley areas.
The grant would be used to support the cost of equipment for
productions.
CAVERSHAM VISUALLY IMPAIRED PEDDLARS - £250
This group was founded in 2020 and currently supports 20 visually
impaired (VI) riders..
Their aims are:
- Increase participation – encourage more VI individuals to access cycling opportunities
- Enhance accessibility - improve equipment training and support for the riders and volunteers.
- Build sustainability - strengthen the group’s long-term future.
They have requested funding to purchase https://www.sigmasports.com/item/ORTLIEB/Back-Roller-Classic-Pannier-Bag-Set/LQQM in High Viz Yellow.
These panniers
provide waterproof storage capacity, using a simple and secure mounting system
that allows them to be easily attached and removed from a bike.
This equipment will
significantly support the VI riders, by enabling the group to safely carry
essential items such their canes and other belongings.
This will help the
group to deliver a smoother and more accessible experience for VI participants.
£250 would
fund 2 high viz panniers.
THE ENGINE SHED - £1000
The engine shed is a special interest group supporting autistic
children, young people, and adults. It has been running for 16 years and is
entirely run by volunteers.
The original group were looking to provide recreational activities for
autistic children and knew that they liked trains.
The group’s activities have expanded over the years and this year they
won ‘The Community Group Award’ in the BBC Berkshire ‘Make a Difference
Awards’.
They have been offered the opportunity to buy the premises that they
currently rent. They have already raised significant funds but would be
grateful for any contribution towards the purchase of the unit.
THE WELLER CENTRE - £500
This charity is based in Caversham and has been running for seven years.
During that time, they have transformed a rundown community centre into a
thriving facility that supports deprived people and kids living in the
immediate area.
Their priority is volunteering to improve the health and wellbeing of
young people and families.
They are requesting funding so that they can introduce an animal therapy
scheme (initially using Guinea Pigs), to benefit the mental health of children
and young people.
The money would be used to purchase the equipment they need to house and
support the animals.
